Volkswagen Recalls 218,000 Jetta Sedans to Fix Fuel Leaks
Volkswagen has announced a recall that covers more than 218,000 Jetta sedans sold in the United States for potential fuel leaks that could cause fires. According to a report in The Daily Mail, the recalled vehicles are from the model years 2016 to 2018 with the 1.4-liter engines constructed for those cars built between June 18, 2015 and Dec. 9, 2017. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released documents sharing the root of the problem – high-pressure tubing bolts that can come loose over time. This could allow fuel to leak which could lead to a fire.
Recall Details
The automaker says it is not aware of any fires or injuries as a result of this auto defect. NHTSA says complaints about the problem have been made ranging from smelling fuel to engine leaks. Consumers are encouraged to go to their Volkswagen dealer if they smell fuel or believe the engine is leaking. Volkswagen does not currently have a fix for this problem although they expect to be able to notify owners of a remedy by Dec. 20, less than two months away.
This is not the first recall Volkswagen has recently faced. In December, Green Car Reports noted more than 2,100 2013 to 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid vehicles were recalled because of a transmission issue that could result in a loss of driving power. Just last month, a recall for almost 5,000 Volkswagen vehicles was issued for a backrest problem that could result in serious injury in the event of a crash.
