Sunbeam Recalls More Than 900,000 Crock-Pot Pressure Cookers for Burn Injury Risk
A day before Thanksgiving, Sunbeam Products has recalled about 914,000 Crock-Pot pressure cookers for a potential burn risk. According to a USA Today news report, the recall is for Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers (Model number- SCCPPC600-V1). Florida-based Sunbeam Products has said it has so far received 119 reports of lid detachment resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns.
Details of the Recall
A notice posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website says the recalled Crock-Pot multi-cooker can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked. This could cause the lid to suddenly detach while the cooker is still in use posing burn risks to consumers from hot food and liquids that get expelled from the product.
The defective cookers were sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon and other retail stores nationwide from July 2017 through November 2020 for between $70 to $100. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled products in pressure cooker mode immediately. Crock-Pot will send consumers information about whom they can contact for free replacement lids.

Crock-Pot is urging users to not exceed the fill line when cooking liquid ingredients and lock the cooker properly before commencing cooking. In January 2015, 34,000 Sunbeam Holmes oil-filled heaters were recalled due to a scald hazard. In that case, the manufacturer got about 40 reports of units unexpectedly spraying heated oil and resulting in property damage. Back in May 2014, Sunbeam also recalled around 151,000 Holmes oscillating ceramic heaters due to a fire hazard.
