Two Scooter Riders Seriously Injured in Silver Lake Hit-and-Run Crash
Two people who were riding on a scooter suffered major injuries after a hit-and-run driver struck them the night of Sept. 4. According to a KTLA news report, the crash occurred near the intersection of Glendale Boulevard and Rowena Avenue. Two people were riding on what was described as a scooter when they were rear-ended by another vehicle. Both riders were ejected from the scooter, which was dragged for about a block before a witness said the driver got out and removed it. The driver then fled the scene.
Both victims were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. One person was said to be in “very critical” condition and the other was expected to survive. A witness said one of the victims was gasping for breath after the crash. The men were believed to be in their early 20s. A driver or vehicle description is not available. But officials are asking anyone who witnessed this crash or information to contact them.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this horrific hit-and-run crash. We hope they have a speedy and complete recovery.
Hit-and-Run Law
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the vehicle struck the scooter from behind seriously injuring the two riders and then sped away from the scene dragging the scooter for about a block, leaving the injured victims in the roadway. Leaving the scene of an injury crash is against the law and is a felony crime in California.
California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
Justice for Victims
If you have been injured in a hit-and-run crash, you may be wondering how to pay for medical expenses and other associated costs while not being able to work due to your injuries. Hit-and-run victims struggle with physical, emotional and financial challenges while not having anyone to hold accountable.
In such cases, compensation may be available to victims and their families. An experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer will be able to help fight for your rights and secure maximum compensation for your losses. If the hit-and-run driver is apprehended, he or she could be held liable. If they have not been apprehended, then the uninsured motorist clause of the victim’s auto insurance policy might help cover some of the losses.
