Toyota Tacoma Pickup Trucks Recalled for Oil Leaks
Toyota has announced a vehicle defect recall for about 228,000 2016 and 2017 Tacoma pickup trucks. According to a news report in The Car Connection, some of these vehicles could experience oil leaks, reduced accelerations, and in some extreme cases, the truck’s drivetrain could seize. The problem with the Tacoma is apparently rooted in its rear differential, which may suffer from a loose gasket. If that’s the case, the differential could leak oil. If owners fail to notice the leak or don’t get their trucks repaired in a timely manner, the rear differential could become damaged leading to noise and reduced propulsion.
Details of the Recall
Toyota says that it is even possible that the Tacoma’s rear differential could seize, which could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. None of these situations are good and they, of course, could dramatically increase the risk of crash. The recall affects vehicles registered in the United States. Owners of these vehicles should get notices from Toyota in the mail, beginning mid-June. After getting these notices, owners will be able to take their Tacoma pickup trucks to Toyota dealerships for service.
Toyota dealers will check the rear differential for oil leakage. If no leaks are found, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If they do find leaks, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one and new fasteners will be installed. If the rear differential components are damages, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one. If you own one of these vehicles, visit toyota.com/recall and enter your vehicle identification number or VIN to find out if your pickup truck is a part of this recall.
Auto Product Liability Issues
When a defective auto product or faulty vehicle part causes or contributes to injuries, the automaker and or the manufacturer of the defective part can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering by filing a product liability claim. In cases where the defective auto has caused a fatality, family members of deceased victims can file what is known as a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for their losses. The best auto defect law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluations to injured victims and their families.
