Tips for a Safe Injury Free Memorial Day
Memorial Day is here and it’s the unofficial start of summer. It’s the time of year when families get ready to go on road trips. People go on picnics in beaches and parks. We get ready for backyard barbecues. We clean out our swimming pools in preparation for those fun pool parties. But, a weekend of fun and memorable gatherings can go awry very quickly. The Memorial Day weekend is also notorious for car crashes, swimming pool accidents and other mishaps.
Practicing Safety
Here are a few tips to help you have a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend: Travel safety: Don’t drink and drive or travel with anyone who you know has been drinking. Always wear your seatbelt. Do not drive while distracted or if you are drowsy or fatigued. Make sure your vehicle has been serviced before a long road trip. Check your brakes, tires and windshield wipers.
Water safety: If you are having a pool party this holiday weekend, make sure that your home is ready and safe for guests. It is a great idea to hire a lifeguard to keep an eye on your guests, particularly if you are having children over. Make sure your swimming pool has layers of safety including a fence and a gate that can be locked. Install pool alarms that can alert you if someone is underwater or in the pool area. Always supervise young children when they are in or around the pool. If you are swimming in the beach, never swim alone.
Food safety: Memorial Day is also the time for fun picnics in the beach or park. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food, particularly meat. Be sure to cook all meats thoroughly especially ground beef, poultry and pork.
Fire safety: When using a grill, be sure to clean it thoroughly to remove any grease or dust. Check for gas leaks. Use the grill outside and not in a garage, porch or other enclosed space.
If You Have Been Injured
If you or a loved one has been injured this Memorial Day as the result of someone else’s negligence, please remember that you have legal rights. An experienced California personal injury lawyer will be able to guide you through what can be a complex legal process, and help you secure fair and full compensation for all your significant losses.
We hope you have a fun, safe and memorable Memorial Day!
