Taco Bell Recalls 2.3 Million Pounds of Beef Due to Metal Contamination

Taco Bell has recalled about 2.3 million pounds of beef because a customer found metal shavings in a menu item. According to a Fox News report, the recall affects restaurants in 21 states through the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast United States. Taco Bell administrators said they acted as soon as they received the first consumer complaint to remove the product from affected restaurants and informed the U.S. Department of Agriculture about the steps taken to protect consumers. The voluntary recall was issued Oct. 11.

Customers first began taking note of a beef shortage at their local Taco Bell restaurants over the weekend with some in disbelief that the chain would run out of one of its most popular ingredients. Taco Bell did not specifically say when the beef would return to its stores. The company has said they are working to replenish the supply. So far no customers have reported injuries or adverse reactions to the beef. Anyone who suffers from adverse reactions is asked to contact a healthcare provider right away.
