Personal Injury Law Firm Walks with MADD to Prevent Drunk Driving
According to Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and CDC statistics, about 11,773 people died in alcohol-related traffic accidents in 2008. It is also predicted that around 3 of every 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related traffic collision in their lives. These types of crashes cost around $51 billion every year.
This is why the California personal injury lawyers and staff of BISNAR | CHASE are sponsoring the 2010 Walk Like MADD event as a corporate patron and water sponsor. The event will happen on Saturday, May 8 in Huntington Beach, California and is hosted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving to support their programs for victims of drunk driving as well as their programs designed to educate in order to stop drunk driving.
BISNAR | CHASE staff are currently involved in raising money for the event and will participate in the 5K walk to provide water for participants. The firm’s involvement will include educating people about their legal rights as victims of drunk driving accidents.
“We’re proud to be a sponsor of such an important event and a supporter of MADD, an organization that works tirelessly to prevent drunk driving and underage drinking,” said John Bisnar, founder of BISNAR | CHASE. “The statistics involving drunk driving crashes are staggering. That’s why we felt it was so important to get involved with the Walk Like MADD 2010 event, to give something back to our community and to educate victims of drunk driving crashes, to help them seek justice against offenders and to recover monetary damages for injuries and wrongful death.”
MADD provides education and awareness to the public about drinking and driving, and also works to pass and enforce anti-drunk driving legislation. They also help families of victims and survivors through the devastating aftermath of drunk-driving incidents. MADD’s efforts are particularly important since the number of hit-and-run offenses have risen sharply in recent years. It is likely that hit-and-runs are occurring more often as people drink-and-drive, then flee the scene to avoid repercussions.
BISNAR | CHASE has also recently begun a new program with WeTip, a leading anonymous crime reporting service non-profit, called Hit and Run Reward (www.HitandRunReward.com). It is designed to allow witnesses of hit-and-run accidents to anonymously submit information online or by phone that may help law enforcement locate drivers responsible for dangerous hit-and-run accidents. For the submission of useful information, the public is rewarded with cash. The program is an ingenious way of giving communities the tools to prevent fatal accidents.
“I’m utterly appalled by the inhumanity of hit-and-run drivers who flee the scene of a serious crash, leaving injured victims to suffer or die,” said Bisnar. “It’s my hope more violators will get prosecuted when witnesses have a place and method to anonymously turn them in and that perpetrators will be deterred from fleeing the scene when they know someone can and will report them.”
