Nissan Recalls Vehicles for Ignition Issues
Nissan is issuing a vehicle defect recall for about 166,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada because their ignition switches would wear out over time causing the car to shut off while in motion. According to a Consumer Reports article, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not put out an official notice about this recall. But, a Nissan spokesman confirmed to Consumer Reports that the recall is happening.
Details of the Recall
Transport Canada, that country’s governmental agency responsible for vehicle recalls has issued an official recall notice and recommends owners of affected vehicles to remove all objects from the ignition key ring such as additional keys, key chains and so on. Nissan has said they are not aware of any incidents or injuries related to this condition.
According to Consumer Reports the vehicles include certain 2017 and 2018 Juke SUVs, Frontier pickup trucks, Sentra and Versa sedans, Verta Noche hatchbacks and NV and NV200 vans. Ignition systems in these vehicles that use a mechanical key may experience reduced durability. In some situations, the key could move out of the “on” position while the vehicle is in motion.

When the recall begins, dealers will inspect and replace the mechanical key ignition switch assemble, if necessary, at no cost to consumers. If you suspect you have one these vehicles, enter your vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number on NHTSA’s website. However, this recall might not show up on the website until NHTSA has officially posted the recall notice.

Those faulty GM switches were linked to at least 13 deaths and 47 crashes. This is an extremely serious auto defect, which has the potential to result in catastrophic injuries and fatalities.
