Nissan Versa Note Recalled for Defective Bolts
Nissan is issuing a vehicle safety recall for nearly 13,000 Versa Note subcompact hatchbacks because of problems with loose bolts in the back of the vehicle. According to a Detroit News report, the recall affects cars from the 2014 model year that were built in Mexico before July 5 and distributed mainly in North America. Nissan says the bolts that hold the rear seat back latches may not be strong enough, which could increase the risk of injury for backseat passengers in the crash.
The other bolts that secure the body to the undercarriage may not have been tightened enough or could be missing in rare cases. This could weaken the car’s rear crash performance. Nissan officials say no crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of these defective vehicles. When the recall begins in mid-August, dealers will check the bolts and fix or replace them at no cost.
Injuries Causes by Rear-End Collisions
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 28 percent of all car crashes are rear-end collisions. Rear-end crashes also result in serious and debilitating injuries such as soft tissue injuries, disk herniation, head injuries such as concussions, broken bones and spinal cord trauma. Your vehicle must be crashworthy when it comes to rear-end collisions. This means that your vehicle should protect you in the event of a crash.
In this particular case, it appears that the bolts that hold the rear seat back latches are not strong enough and the bolts that secure the undercarriage may not have been properly tightened. These types of defects in the vehicles can cause devastating injuries to vehicle occupants especially those who are sitting in the back seat.
