Newport Beach Personal Injury Law Firm Supports Orange County Nonprofit that Helps Abused Children

Child abuse and domestic violence are serious issues that confront our society. Eli Home is an Orange County nonprofit that not only provides transitional housing for women and children who have been abused and are victims of domestic violence but also has community programs that help break the cycle of child abuse and domestic violence.

We at the Newport Beach personal injury law firm of Bisnar Chase are pleased to support such a fine organization that is providing an extremely valuable service to our community, especially our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Our law firm recently made a $5,000 donation to Eli Home, which we hope will help fund some of these valuable and potentially life-saving programs.

How Serious is the Problem?

Child abuse is much more than black eyes and bruises. While the consequences of physical abuse are often physical, they often heal. Emotional abuse and neglect, on the other hand, leave deep and long-lasting scars. The earlier abused children get help, the greater their chance of healing and breaking the cycle of abuse rather than perpetuating it. Regardless of the type of child abuse, it is important to remember that it could cause serious harm. Parents of children who are being abused must get themselves and their children out of the dangerous environment they are in and get the help they need.

Services Eli Home Provides

Eli Home provides this safe environment for abused children and their mothers. They provide a 24-hour shelter with staff. They teach social skills, self-esteem and about boundaries and respect for others. The organization also provides anger management programs, vocational training such as interviewing skills and job training, individual and group counseling and assistance with permanent housing. They refer families to much-needed resources and services as well.

They also run the East Street Community Renewal Initiative. The community served through this initiative is located in an area of Anaheim that is predominantly low-income, densely populated and has a high rate of crime. This program addresses the problem of child abuse and family violence by looking at a community as a whole and looking for solutions that build healthier environments in which kids can thrive. This program aims to provide financial education, job training, family counseling, social services, after-school programs and citizenship classes in an effort to help reduce the stressors that lead to abuse and violence.
