Modus Recalls Dressers Sold at Costco and Other Outlets for Tip-Over Risk

Modus Furniture has recalled 1,300 dressers because they are unstable, posing a serious tip-over risk that can result in death or injuries to children. According to Consumer Report, an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also said that the dressers and the tip-over restraints that came with them do not comply with the industry’s current voluntary safety standards. Tip-over restraints are intended to secure furniture to the wall and prevent it from tipping. These dressers pose a serious tip-over and entrapment risk that could result in injuries or deaths to young children.

Details of the Recall

The recalled products include brands such as Brighton, Travis and Bevelle. All models were produced by Modus. The mahogany and cherry wood veneers have satin nickel-finished pull knobs and handles. A label on the back of each recalled dresser displays the date of manufacture and “Made in Indonesia.”

The products were sold at Costco and other furniture stores nationwide and online from November 2017 through December 2019 for about $700 to $1,100.
