King Arthur Flour Recalled for E. Coli Risk
About 14,218 cases of King Arthur 5-pound unbleached all-purpose flour bags have been recalled for a potential E. coli risk. According to a report on USA Today, the recalled flour was distributed through retailers including Target, Wal-Mart and other distributors nationwide. Nearly 114,000 bags of flour are included in this recall. The company said in a statement that they were informed by ADM Milling Company that certain wheat used to make these lots of flour have been linked to an ongoing E. coli outbreak.
Details of the Recall
No illnesses have been linked to the recalled King Arthur flour yet, according to the company. Last month, Aldi and ADM recalled 5-pound bags of Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour sold at select Aldi stores in 11 states because of a potential E. coli risk. On May 24, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Shiga-toxin producing E. coli infections linked to flour packaged by ADM Milling Company.
The CDC also said last month that the E. coli has sickened 17 people across eight states. The affected flour in the recall has six specific lot codes and three “Best Used by” dates. The dates and lot numbers can be found on the bottom of the side panel, below the nutrition facts panel. Customers can return the flour to local stores for a credit or refund. E. coli infections are typically transmitted through contaminated food or water and occur three to four days after food containing the bacteria is consumed. Common symptoms of an E. coli infection include stomach cramps, diarrhea that is often bloody, vomiting and nausea. Symptoms usually show up after five to seven days. In severe cases, patients may get a condition known as hemolytic uremic syndrome that could result in kidney failure.
If You Have Been Affected
