Kia Recalls Compact SUVs For Steering Defects
Kia is recalling more than 256,000 Soul compact SUVs because of potential steering failure.
According to an Associated Press news report, the recall covers certain Soul vehicles from the 2014 to 2016 model years.
Kia said in documents filed with the government that the adhesive that holds steering gear parts together may not be strong enough and the parts can separate.
This can cause loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash. Kia discovered the problem after getting warranty reports from dealers.
The company says no crashes or injuries have been reported. Dealers will inspect and replace a steering gear plug if necessary, when the recall begins in late December.
They will also install a bold for additional reinforcement.
The Danger of Steering Defects
The vehicle’s steering system is among the vital components in the vehicle. These systems may include the power steering pump, hydraulic lines and other parts.
If any of these parts fail, steering loss could occur, causing serious crashes and injuries.
Steering issues can also cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle and collide with other cars, stationary objects or pedestrians. We count on our vehicle’s steering system to keep us safe and help us get around road hazards.
When steering systems fail, the consequences can be devastating.
