Honda Odyssey Minivan Recalled for Issue with Sliding Doors
Honda is recalling about 107,000 of its 2018 and 2019 Odyssey minivans because its power sliding doors may not latch properly increasing the possibility of the doors opening while the vehicle is in motion. According to Consumer Reports, some components in the power sliding door’s rear latch assembly are prone to sticking, which can stop the front and rear latches from connecting securely. This affects the left and right power sliding doors.
Details of the Recall
Honda says its dealers have a limited supply of latch repair kits, but it anticipates having more stock by late December. The recall is expected to begin Dec. 20. If a dealer cannot get a repair kit, Odyssey owners can temporarily disable the power sliding doors until the parts become available. In order to disable the power sliding function, a dealer technician can pull certain fuses and disconnect the main power door button on the dashboard.
This would be done only if a customer requests it. The doors can also be manually operated. Honda has said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries relating to this problem. This recall involves about 107,774 of the 2018 and 2019 Odyssey minivans manufactured from Jan. 19, 2017 through April 16, 2018. When the recall begins on Dec. 20, dealers will replace the left and right power sliding door rear latch assemblies free of charge.
