Tragic Accident
This tragic incident proves that the swimming pool can be dangerous for individuals of all ages, not just children.
While we talk quite a bit about drowning and near-drowning incidents, especially during the summertime when these accidents multiply, we don’t discuss another important hazard in pool areas – slip-and-fall accidents.
Swimming pools pose slip-and-fall dangers because water tends to splash along the sides of the pool area and surfaces could get slick very quickly.
When children run around the pool, they are at risk of slipping and falling. Slip-and-fall accidents around the swimming pool could lead to serious injuries including head injuries, neck and back injuries, broken bones and internal injuries.
As in Vroman’s case, if individuals strike their head against a hard surface, become unconscious and fall into the pool, they could drown.
Preventing Fall-Related Injuries
There are many ways in which these types of tragic swimming pool slip-and-fall accidents can be prevented.
Here are just a few tips:
- Ensure that walkways and pedestrian areas are free from obstacles and tripping hazards. Do not leave toys, inflatables or other objects lying around the pool area.
- Make sure that poolside walkways have sufficient traction and non-slip surface covering to minimize the chance of a fall.
- Place handrails in potentially dangerous areas.
- Consider installing fencing or protective barriers to prevent accidental falls into the pool.
- Place warning signs reminding pedestrians of potential hazards.
- Never allow people to run around or play on slippery surfaces.
As Los Angeles swimming pool accident lawyers, we would encourage all property owners this summer to do their best to help prevent these slip-and-fall accidents.
If an accident does occur on your property, you may be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses, depending on the circumstances of the incident.
