Ford Recalls Vehicles for Safety and Compliance Issues
Ford has announced that it will recall more than 400,000 vehicles for safety and compliance issues. According to a CNBC news report, Ford issued one recall and two safety-compliance recalls affecting its 2015-2017 Transit van or bus vehicles. So far, no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of these vehicles.
Recall Details
The Dearborn automaker said that in the affected vehicles, continuing to operate a vehicle with a cracked flexible coupling may cause the separation of the driveshaft resulting in a loss of motive power while driving or unintended vehicle movement in park without the parking brake applied. In addition, the separation of the driveshaft from the transmission can result in secondary damage to other components such as the brake and fuel lines. A driveshaft separation may also increase the risk of a crash or injury, the automaker said in a statement.
The Ford Transit vehicles affected by this recall were built in the company’s Kansas City assembly plant between January 17, 2014 and June 15, 2017. Ford also issued a safety compliance recall for four Police Interceptor Utility vehicles in the U.S. to repair second row seat attachment studs. A second safety compliance recall was issued for three Ford Escape vehicles in the U.S. to replace driver knee airbag modules.
Dangerous Defects
Based on this news report, it appears that these vehicles were all recalled for serious safety issues and lack of compliance with vehicle safety laws. Even though Ford reports that these safety issues have not caused any injuries or deaths so far, there is the potential for serious or catastrophic injury as a result of these vehicle defects. Automakers are also required to promptly report any customer complaints or lawsuits relating to defective vehicles to the government. This law exists so that consumers are made aware of these problems that could affect their safety and the safety of their loved ones.
Auto Product Liability Issues
Anyone who has been injured by a defective auto or a faulty vehicle part has the legal right to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, loss of income, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. If you have lost a loved one as the result of a defective auto, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well. These are also means for consumers to hold these automakers accountable for their negligence. An experienced auto product liability attorney can help affected victims and their families seek justice and fair compensation for their losses.
