Defective SUV Tires Recalled For Possible Tread Separation
An Ohio company is recalling about 90,000 SUV tires because the tread on the tires can separate, causing loss of air and increasing the risk of a crash.
According to a CNBC news report, the product defect recall covers certain 15- and 16-inch Hercules Tire and Rubber Co All Trac A/T tires manufactures from June 2008 to May 2010.
When the recall begins, dealers will replace the tires with a newer version that has a full nylon cap. The recalled tires only have a partial nylon cap.
The safety recall came after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
It is unclear as to whether these tire defects caused or contributed to any car accidents or injuries.
The Danger of Tread Separation
Tire tread separation, which often causes the tires to blow out, can cause a vehicle to go completely out of control.
Things can get much worse when a car or SUV is traveling at highway speeds. A car with blown-out tire might travel into oncoming traffic or swerve off the roadway.
An SUV, which usually has a high center of gravity and narrower track width compared to other passenger vehicles, may roll over. Such accidents can cause grave injuries to vehicle occupants.
Auto Product Liability Issues
If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of a defective tire, it is important to remember that you do have legal options.
Be sure to preserve the tire and the vehicle so an expert can thoroughly examine both for defects, malfunctions and design flaws.
If a tire defect caused your accident and resulting injuries, a product liability lawsuit can be filed against the manufacturer of the defective tire.
Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress.
