Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Lawyer H. Gavin Long Appointed to Board of Governors of CAOC
, a personal injury lawyer at Bisnar Chase, has been appointed to the Consumer Attorneys of California’s ( H. Gavin LongCAOC) Board of Governors. Long has been with the firm since April 3, 2012. He has also proved one of the most successful attorneys at the firm winning all three challenging cases he took to trial this year.
Long will be joining the governing board of a statewide organization that has a membership of nearly 3,000 plaintiffs’ attorneys.
Brian Chase, senior partner at Bisnar Chase, is the senior vice president of this esteemed organization, which fights for the rights of those who have been injured or have suffered a loss as the result of someone else’s negligence or wrongdoing.
The Fight for Consumer Rights
Long said he is honored to receive this prestigious appointment and believes he is ready to fight for citizens’ right to justice. “That’s exactly what CAOC is advocating and fighting for,” he said.
“That’s what we, as lawyers, do. We help enforce the law not by putting people in jail, but by hitting their wallet and holding them accountable for their wrongdoing.”
Long said CAOC is doing great work to remove the cap on damages awarded to victims of medical negligence in California. For more than 37 years now, Californians who have been harmed instead of healed by the health care system have faced a significant obstacle in seeking accountability against wrongdoers.
This cap has done little to incentivize doctors and hospitals to improve patient care. Insurance companies have mostly benefited from this cap. This law caps compensation for non-economic damages including life-changing situations such as loss of limbs, severe disfigurement, paralysis and traumatic brain injuries. CAOC has been working hard to get rid of this cap so that injured victims can receive the compensation they rightfully deserve and hold the negligent parties accountable.
Perfect Fit for the Job
Long says he is eager to help promote the group’s activities by reaching out to other lawyers and educating the community about the need for positive change. Long says it is important to him as an attorney that people’s access to lawyers and the justice system is not cut off. He is “very excited” about the opportunity to become increasingly involved in important legislative issues that face the state of California, Long said.
Long graduated from the University of Southern California in 1996 and from Whittier Law School in 1999. He was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for securing the highest grades in his study of Torts and Evidence. Long worked with nationally renowned trial attorney Herbert Hafif on trial preparation for catastrophic injury, business litigation and insurance bad faith cases. Long has a wide range of jury trial experience in cases from murder and fraud to medical malpractice in state and federal courts.
Congratulations Gavin! We are proud of you and know that you are going to represent our firm and your peers admirably. We look forward to seeing the amazing work you do and the noble causes you champion as a member of CAOC’s governing board.
