Steps to Take after a Bike Accident
If you have been injured in a bicycle accident, there are a number of questions you may have. Who will pay your medical expenses? How can you be compensated for wages lost while healing from your injuries? Often, insurance companies handle these injury claims. There are a number of steps you can take in order to protect your legal rights in such situations.
First and foremost, be sure to file a police report. Get your account of the incident into the police report and obtain a copy for your records. Take photographs of the accident scene including pictures of your bicycle, other vehicles involved and any injuries you may have sustained. Get prompt medical attention, treatment and care for your injuries. Preserve any type of physical evidence you may have including torn or bloody clothing.
Obtain pertinent information (insurance, driver’s license number, license plate number) from other parties involved in the crash as well as contact information for eyewitnesses. Contact an experienced Newport Beach bicycle accident lawyer who can help protect your rights and help ensure that you receive maximum compensation for your losses.
What is Your Claim Worth?
The worth or value of your claim often depends on the types of damages you may have suffered. For example, if you sustained injuries that required hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitative treatment and so on, the value of your claim would be much higher than if you had merely suffered a few scratches or bruises. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, rehabilitative treatment, permanent injuries, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced Orange County Bicycle Accident Lawyer can help you evaluate your losses and better understand your legal rights.
