Audi Recalls 139,249 Sedans for Faulty Airbag Sensors
Audi is recalling 139,249 sedans to fix a faulty sensor that may prevent a vehicle’s front passenger airbag from deploying in a crash. According to Consumer Reports, the affected vehicles include the 2012 to 2018 A7 and A6, 2013 to 2018 S6 and S7, and 2014 to 2018 RS7. The problem in these vehicles is caused by wear to a passenger occupant detection system, which determines whether someone is sitting in the front passenger seat. If the sensor has become worn, it might not deploy as expected in the event of a crash.
Only vehicles that have standard seats are part of this call, not cars with upgraded seats. If a malfunction occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate. Also, the passenger airbag indicator light will show that the airbag is turned off even if someone is sitting in the front passenger seat. When the recall begins on July 31, Audi dealers will install replacement parts for improved reliability at no cost to consumers. You can check if your vehicle is part of this recall by plugging in your 17-digit vehicle identification number on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website.
The Danger of Defective Airbags
A number of recalls involving airbag issues involve defective sensors. This could be a serious problem particularly if the defect causes the airbags to not deploy during the event of a crash. This could result in traumatic and devastating injuries for vehicle occupants since we rely on airbags to protect us from these types of injuries. When airbags deploy suddenly and inadvertently, that could result in injuries as well. It is not clear if anyone has been injured as a result of these Audi airbag sensor defects.
Auto Product Liability Issues
If a defective airbag has injured you or a loved one, you may be able to receive compensation for your losses by filing what is known as a product liability claim. In such cases where certain auto parts are defective, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the automaker and the parts manufacturer as well as other parties. You could seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering. However, it is important that you get an experienced auto defect law firm on your side. You need a knowledgeable lawyer and legal team on your side that have handled similar cases and won against these large corporations.
