“A True story about Drunk Driving” Retold and Reemphasized
The son of a deceased drunk driving accident victim, shared his and his father’s story called “A True story about Drunk Driving.” In the story, he tells of a drunk driver who hit his parent’s car at 95 mph on the freeway, causing the car to crash into another car, road signs, and a barrier on the side of the road.
The accident caused the passenger seat to be ripped in half, ending up in the middle of the car. This was the seat his father was in during the accident.
At the time of the accident, his father suffered many injuries including “broken vertebrae, double aneurisms both around his heart and in his stomach.” He relates that his father’s life, that of an active and healthy man, was cut short due to another’s careless choices which lead to disastrous consequences.
The son’s father died a year later due to the aneurisms bursting around his heart.
Our hearts and prayers go out to this man and his family. There are few to no words that can heal a sorrowing heart. May he and his family heal from such a tremendous and terrible loss.
This story is so touching, moving, and aggravating. Why did this have to happen? Why did the drunk driver choose to drive that night after drinking? What could have prevented him from driving? Did the drunk driver feel the repercussions of his actions? If someone dies a year after an accident, directly related to injuries caused by the accident, can the culprit be brought to justice?
These are all questions that the reader has circulating in their brains. The tragedy of this world can seem too much to bear, the injustice of this world crippling.
Although many of these questions are personal and unanswerable, the question of the victim’s death being brought to justice a year later will be addressed.
There are many types of laws that apply to this story but it is the statute of limitations that that applies specifically. The Utah state code lays out many statutes of limitations depending on the area of law at hand. Typically the limitation is two years after the negligent act. This means that the victim or the victim’s family may seek justice within two years of a negligent act. In the case of this story, the heir, which would be the son, has the legal right to seek judicial aid in the death of his father. If the death can be medically proven to have been caused by the car accident, then the case may have a successful outcome.
Unfortunately, Utah drunk driving accidents, and those in any state, occur all the time and can often have dramatic consequences. If you or someone you know has been injured in a drunk driving accident, call a personal injury attorney today. They will seek justice and restoration for you and your family.
