6-Year-Old Boy Mauled to Death in Horror Pit Bull Accident
Logan Braatz, a 6-year-old boy, was viciously attacked by pit bulls in a dog bite accident as he was walking to F.L. Stanton Elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia on Jan. 17 at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Logan was with Syria Sanders, a 5-year-old girl and Logan’s classmate, during the dog bite attack. Syria was also attacked by these same pit bulls on her way to the same school. Logan and Syria were accompanied by three other children during this incident.
The Incident Was Nothing Short of Horror
The fellow elementary students that were with Logan and Syria came to their aid by attempting to pull the pit bulls off the children. A neighbor heard the screams of the children and came to their aid immediately.
Police also arrived quickly to the scene of the dog bite attack. One of the dogs that was involved was shot by a police officer and the other two dogs that were involved were taken away to animal control. Unfortunately, the collective efforts of the community of Atlanta were not enough to save Logan’s life.
Lost but Not Forgotten
Logan passed away from the aftermath of the dog bite accident moments after he was brought in to Grady Memorial hospital. Syria, however, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and is currently in stable condition. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Justice Will Be Served
The owner of the pit bulls that were involved in the attack, Cameron Tucker, was arrested on site on two misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct. Detectives later spent the evening searching Tucker’s house for clues. Witnesses also publicly stated that the dogs that attacked the children were often spotted walking around the neighborhood without collars or tags. Charges are expected to be raised to manslaughter. “The dog just ripped into Syria,” recalls neighbor Angie Smith. “I ran to her and when I looked down, I knew there was nothing I could do.”
A crisis team was later deployed to the school to help council the grieving students and staff.
What to Do If You’re the Victim of a Dog Bite Accident
From the information presented to the public, it appears that this is a case of negligence. The owner took no responsibility for his dogs or controlling them for that matter. Due to the dog owner’s negligence, young, innocent lives paid the price.
In cases like this, the owner of these dogs can be held responsible for the injuries, losses and damages caused by his dogs.
California Civil Code Section 3342 clearly states: “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”
