2014 Acura MDX Vehicles Recalled for Loose Bolts
Honda is issuing an auto defect recall for 2014 Acura MDX SUVs equipped with all-wheel drive for a potential problem involving loose bolts. According to a report in The Car Connection, about 19,197 vehicles built from May 6, 2013 through October 14, 2013 have been affected by the recall. At issue are bolts that may not have been properly tightened during vehicle assembly. According to Honda officials, it is possible that two of the four bolts that attach the propeller shaft to the automatic transmission assembly were not properly tightened.
 Improperly Torqued Bolts
The improperly torqued bolts could loosen over time possibly causing detachment of the propeller shaft. If this occurs during driving, an excessively loud noise would be heard, the vehicle may be damaged and a crash could occur. Honda said it discovered the missing bolt problem in October on a vehicle at its Alabama assembly plant. After the automaker inspected all other vehicles at the plant and found another 15 with missing bolts, Honda officials made the decision to order a recall. So far, Honda says, there have been no reports of crashes, injuries or customer complaints with regard to this issue.
When the recall begins, Honda will notify owners and dealers will first inspect and tighten bolts, as necessary, at no charge to the consumer. In the meantime, anyone who owns a 2014 Acura MDX crossover SUV with all-wheel drive is asked to contact (800) 999-1009 to obtain more information. Vehicle owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at (888) 327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
 Auto Product Liability Issues
Auto defects may occur during the manufacturing process or during the vehicle design process. Regardless of when the defect occurs, it is the automaker’s duty and responsibility to issue a prompt safety recall and make the necessary repairs at no charge to consumers. Anyone who has been affected by a defective auto can file a product liability claim against the automaker. If you have been involved in a car crash, please preserve the vehicle in its current condition unaltered so it can be examined by an expert for defects, malfunctions and design flaws. An experienced auto product liability attorney can advise victims and their families in such cases regarding their legal rights and options.
