20 Injured in San Bernardino Rollover Crash
Twenty people suffered injuries in a rollover crash involving a tour bus in San Bernardino County the afternoon of May 22, 2016. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the shuttle bus carrying a church group rolled over on Highway 330 about two miles north of the 210 Freeway. Twenty of the 22 people on the bus suffered injuries. The bus was one of several taking about 200 people from a Big Bear-area retreat back to a church in Downey.
Major Injuries Reported
The Times reports that the bus is owned by the church and is used for transportation twice a week. California Highway Patrol officials said the bus sideswiped a wall and then rear-ended a Nissan Versa. Of those who were injured six suffered major injuries and were hospitalized. The rest had mild to moderate injuries. All of the injured victims are expected to survive. It is not clear what caused the bus to go out of control and roll over. The investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the injured victims of this collision. It is indeed fortunate that none of the victims suffered critical injuries. We wish them all the very best for a quick and full recovery.
What Caused the Crash?
Based on this news report it is unclear as to what caused this rollover crash. In an NBC report, some of the passengers commended the driver for the manner in which she handled the bus after it sideswiped the wall. There are still a number of unanswered questions here. What caused the driver to lose control of the bus?
Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction that caused the bus to go out of control? Did another vehicle cause this crash, or, were any other vehicles involved in the collision other than the Nissan Versa? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely who or what caused this rollover accident.
Protecting Victims’ Rights
In such cases, victims can seek compensation for damages from the at-fault parties including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitative therapy, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Bus accidents, especially those involving rollovers, can result in severe injuries such as head and spinal trauma, broken bones and internal injuries. Victims in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer who can help protect their rights and ensure that they are fairly and fully compensated for their significant losses.
