March Air Reserve Base Members and Their Families in Riverside, California to Receive Free Turkeys for Thanksgiving
Bisnar Chase to donate turkeys for Thanksgiving to help March ARB members and their families facing financial difficulties.
>Newport Beach, California (PRWEB) November 08, 2012
Select service members of the March Air Reserve Base (March ARB) and their families are getting a much needed gift this Thanksgiving season. On Wednesday, November 14th, Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys in Newport Beach (https://www.bestatto-gatsby.netlify.app) is donating turkeys for Thanksgiving to help many of the Unit's reserve members and veterans who are currently unemployed, homeless, or facing financial hardships this holiday.
The service members and their families were selected to receive Thanksgiving turkeys by March ARB, located in Riverside County and consisting of Reservists (both ARTs and TRs), Guardsmen, and active duty from all branches of the military. The base is home to the Air Force Reserve Command's 4th Air Force Headquarters and the 452d Air Mobility Wing, the largest air mobility wing of the 4th Air Force.
In addition to multiple units of the Air Force Reserve Command, March ARB is also home to units from the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and the California Air National Guard. March ARB's Family Readiness Leader, Talia Wesley, who is coordinating the turkey giveaway for select service members and their families, solicited the help of Bisnar Chase after learning about the law firm's involvement with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and its sponsorship of two upcoming food donations in November to feed more than 1,000 families with turkeys and other food items.
Bisnar Chase staff members, including John Bisnar, founder, have teamed up with Albertsons in Riverside to deliver and distribute the turkeys next week. Bisnar, an Army war veteran who served active duty in the Pacific and South East Asia from 1968 - 1970, says not only is this gift for the Thanksgiving holiday but for Veteran's Day in honor of the nation's military heroes who have dutifully served our country, both past and present.
"We're grateful to Talia for bringing to our attention this need for assistance," said Bisnar. "It's an honor for us to be able to assist military families and offer them a token of our appreciation in a tangible way due to the sacrifices they've made for our country. The idea that we're helping dozens of military families celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday is a gift to our law firm and to me, personally. We'll enjoy our holiday more because we've helped members of March ARB enjoy theirs."
With an estimated 33,000 troops returning from Afghanistan this past September, an influx of veterans in the labor force exacerbates financial hardships, especially considering most personnel went straight into service after graduating high school, lacking college degrees many employers seek. In 2011, the annual average unemployment rate among veterans was a staggering 30.2 percent, while the non-veteran average unemployment rate was 16.1 percent, according to a May 2012 report by the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee Chairman's Staff. For veterans who served in the National Guard or Reserves, deployment overseas may have derailed promotion opportunities in their civilian professions, while others may have faced lack of work from reluctant employers based on an increase in deployment rates over the past decade.
The Epidemic of Hunger
Hunger is an epidemic that affects people from all demographics. There are an estimated 615,000 individuals who struggle with hunger in Orange County alone, and of these people, 77% do not qualify for government food assistance programs and rely on food banks for meals. According to FeedingAmerica.org, 48.8 million Americans lived in "food insecure" homes in 2010. Of those, 32.6 million were adults and 16.2 million were children. Statistics for the same year show households with children reporting a much higher rate of "food insecurity" than those without (20.2 percent compared to 11.7 percent).
Bisnar Chase recently announced members of its staff and their family and friends will be on hand Monday, November 12, 2012 from 12:15 PM - 3:00 PM to donate free turkeys to the area's needy. The event will be held at Connected Blessings located at 166 Donna Court in Anaheim. The second event, scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2012, will be held at St. Norberts, located at 300 E. Taft Avenue in Orange from 12:15 PM - 3:00 PM. Bisnar Chase will be on hand once again to donate free turkeys, vegetables, bread and other Thanksgiving food items.
Last year, Bisnar Chase distributed more than 750 free turkeys to the area's hungry and has worked closely with Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County to sponsor nearly a dozen food giveaways in all. Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, a member of Feeding America, is the largest private hunger relief organization in the county, partnering with more than 470 charitable organizations to feed an average of 240,000 people each month.
