Walk to End Alzheimer's Event Receives Unlikely Assistance
According to the Alzheimer's association (http://www.alz.org), 5.4 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's disease, and those numbers are rising. With one in eight elder Americans struggling with the disease, organizations like the Alzheimer's association are making valiant efforts to help increase funding and research. The association hosts several Alzheimer events and is one of the largest Alzheimer research contributors in the world.
The hard-working men and women at the association have been preparing as this year's latest fundraising opportunity quickly approaches. The association's "Walk to End Alzheimer's" event is an annual nation-wide event focused on raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, support, and care. Donations are widely coveted and new sponsors are actively pursued to help increase efforts and provide Alzheimer victims with a fighting chance.
The "Walk to End Alzheimer's" organizers set this year's goal at $90,000, but the economic climate as well as other unforeseen circumstances has left them tens of thousands of dollars short of their goal.
Peggy Mione, a Quality Assurance Assessment Manager for Hospice Touch, has been reaching out to local businesses to help spark interest and donations to get the event back on track. Her dedication to the cause has led to a number of significant donations and has raised awareness throughout the community.
"I have been blessed with the responsibility of upholding the highest standards of patient care, and my experiences have instilled a passion for those suffering from Dementia. I assist victims within my unit at Hospice Touch and truly felt the devastating effects of the disease through my experience with a young family there. Once a well-liked sole wage earner with a wife and two young children, I saw a man begin to forget his own wife's name. The experience touched me and I feel that anything that I can do to help raise awareness and contribute to a cure is very rewarding."

Peggy Mione's hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed. John Bisnar and Brian Chase, head partners of the Bisnar Chase law firm, make several yearly donations to numerous causes, but were just now made aware of the Alzheimer Association's local efforts and the community's opportunities to help out.
When Mr. Bisnar first received Peggy's communication asking for his assistance, he felt a connection and made a donation. Had Peggy not approached the Bisnar Chase law firm, Mr. Bisnar feels that there would be little chance that his firm would have ever donated.
"Having represented many traumatic brain injury victims, we have first-hand knowledge of the struggles an Alzheimer's victim and their families' experience. We are all fortunate that there are people like Peggy dedicated to organizations like the Alzheimer's Association whose mission is to end a disease that could affect any of us. Peggy's dedication motivated us to help support the Alzheimer's Association."
-John Bisnar
Bisnar Chase is not the only business ready to put their money where their mouth is. Several other sponsors have donated significant amounts to bring the Alzheimer's Association closer to their goal, but there is still plenty of work to be done. The total amount raised for the Walk To End Alzheimer's event is $17,021.13. With more than $70,000.00 needed to reach their goal, and the event deadline just around the corner, every little bit helps and they are counting on you.
In addition to direct donations, those looking to join the cause can take a look at several options on the Alzheimer's Awareness website. You can donate to a particular participant or you can choose a team. The Walk to End Alzheimer's Event will be held in Southern California and anyone is welcome to attend.
