Westinghouse Lighting Recalls Outdoor Ceiling Fans for Potential Injuries
Westinghouse Lighting has recalled thousands of Great Falls outdoor ceiling fans because of an injury hazard. According to an alert posted on U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Westinghouse Lighting said it has received 62 reports of the fan blades cracking or breaking off, including one person who suffered an impact injury.
Details of the Recall
The recalled ceiling fans were sold online at Amazon.com, Homedepot.com, Wayfair.com and independent distributors nationwide from October 2019 to August 2020 for between $170 to $200. Westinghouse Lighting recalled Great Falls 52-inch outdoor ceiling fans with four dark walnut fan blades, frosted amber glass and an LED lamp. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled ceiling fans and contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to receive a free replacement blade kit.
There have been other similar recalls recently. In April 2018, the CPSC issued a product defect recall for nearly 144,000 ceiling fans because of the risk that a bracket could break and result in the blades falling off. That recall covered about 144,000 ceiling fans by HD Supply. There were no reports of injuries on that one, but there were 13 reports of blades falling from the ceiling with one incident resulting in property damage.
