Thousands of Super Jumper Trampolines Recalled for Fall and Injury Hazards
About 23,000 Super Jumper trampolines are being recalled for posing fall and injury hazards. According to a USA Today news report, the company, which is based in South San Francisco, said in the recall notice posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website that it has received 97 reports of the welds on the metal railings breaking, resulting in four consumers suffering injuries. The recall includes three different types of trampolines – the Super Jumper 14-foot trampolines and the 14-foot and 16-foot combo trampolines with enclosures sold without reinforcement clamps.
Getting a Repair Kit
The recall notice urges consumers to stop using the recalled trampolines immediately and contact Super Jumper for a free repair kit, which comes with reinforcement clamps that clamp around the trampolines’ welded joints. The trampolines were sold for between $200 and $400 online at Amazon.com, Wayfair.com, Hayneedle.com and Overstock.com from 2011 through June 2019.

The recall is limited to providing reinforcement clamps for the existing trampolines, which means the company will not provide a replacement product or refund. It could take one to three months for the repair kit to arrive.
Trampoline Injuries
According to one study, from 2010 to 2014, the average annual number of emergency department visits for trampoline injuries was close to 92,000. The vast majority of these injuries occurred at home, but injuries at trampoline parts surged more than 10-fold during this period. In 2014, injuries at trampoline parks accounted for more than 7,000 emergency department visits, the study found.
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons’ position statement on trampolines and trampoline safety reports that the majority of trampoline-related injuries are fractures and sprains. Falls from trampolines have also caused paralysis or death. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ AAP News adds cuts, strains and spinal damage to the list of potential injuries and says that boys and girls are injured at approximately the same rate.
