Exercise Balls Recalled Because They Can Explode and Cause Injuries
Hundreds of exercise balls are being recalled because they can explode unexpectedly and cause injuries. According to an alert posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Domyos Swiss balls, manufactured by Decathlon USA, could burst while in use posing an injury risk to the user. So far, the company has received 26 reports from around the world of balls exploding unexpectedly. Six of those incidents resulted in injuries including fractures, bruising and scratches. None of those incidents were reported in the United States.
Details of the Recall
The affected balls were sold in blue, gray and burgundy and has one of the following model numbers: 8529175, 8529176 or 8529177. The balls measure 21.65 inches to 29.53 inches in diameter and weigh between 10.6 and 10.9 ounces. Domyos, the diameter and the weight are printed near the base of the ball.
Consumers are urged to stop using these exercise balls immediately and contact Decathlon for a refund in the form of store credit for the amount equal to the purchase price. Decathlon is contacting all known purchasers directly. The balls, made in China, were sold in Decathlon stores nationwide and online at decathlon.com from February 2019 through March 2020 for about $20.
