“Yes To” Recalls Face Masks After Women Report Horrible Reactions

Popular skincare company “Yes To” is pulling its “Grapefruit Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Unicorn Paper Mask” after complaints from girls and women about horrible reactions to the product. According to Buzzfeed, many women have commented on the company’s social media accounts, complaining of a burning sensation and redness after using the masks. The recall comes after many shared frightening photos and descriptions of what they said was a reaction to the unicorn grapefruit mask, a shimmery fuchsia paper product saturated with ingredients advertised to leave complexions “bright and even.”

Complaints About Burning Sensation

Women also posted complaints on websites for large, national retailers such as Target and Ulta, which have been selling the mask. As of now, the product is no longer sold on Target’s website, but it is still available online on Ulta and Amazon websites. While many of the complaints name the grapefruit mask, several others also complained about other masks. One woman said her stepdaughter used a charcoal mask and her face turned deep red like it had been burned. Some have also complained on Ulta’s website about the “Yes To” cucumber under-eye masks with one saying she had a huge rash on her face after just 30 seconds of use.

Donna Baines of New Jersey told Buzzfeed News that her 15-year-old daughter got the unicorn grapefruit mask for Christmas from her father. She said she put it on for 15 minutes. When she took it off, her mother said, her face looked like it was sunburned. Baines said the incident is especially troubling because she believes this specific mask was marketed to young girls. She said she is worried that other children got this mask as a Christmas present. Baines pointed out that the “unicorn” makes it seem like a kids’ product.

Sarah Moore of Missouri also told Buzzfeed that the product was marketed to teens. Her 13-year-old daughter also tried the mask for a sleepover and felt a burning sensation after just a few minutes. But, because the package said “if it’s tingling, it’s working,” the girl left it on. Finally, when she took off the mask her face was red, swollen and physically hot to the touch. Her eyes began to burn and water as well, she said. Adults reported similar reactions from the products as well.

It appears that these products were designed for and marketed to tweens and teens.
