Whole Foods Recalls 70 Food Items Due to Listeria Contamination

Whole Foods has issued a food safety recall for 70 different product including more than 20 salad bar items and 28 hot bar dishes due to possible listeria contamination. According to a news report, among the potentially contaminated items are General Tso’s chicken, green veggie pesto pizza and a variety of prepackaged salmon dinners.

Details of the Recall

The affected products were sold between Oct. 10-Nov. 4. If you happened to order any of the recalled items, you can get a full refund at your local Whole Foods as long as you’ve remembered to keep the receipt. So far, there have been no reports of illnesses that have been linked to these products.

These concerns arise after Mann Packing Company announced last week that they would recall more than 100 vegetable products over concerns that they may be contaminated with listeria. The company was notified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency about the possible contamination, which could result in potentially serious or even fatal infections.

It has been a turbulent few weeks for the food industry. Over the last few weeks, 12 tons of pepperoni were recalled for listeria contamination. Also, Nestle recalled several batches of its cookie dough for rubber contamination while 130,000 pounds of beef were recalled for plastic contamination. Taco Bell recalled its ground beef that could have been contaminated with metal shavings.
