Volkswagen Recalls 151,000 SUVs For Stalling Problems
Volkswagen is issuing a vehicle defect recall for about 151,000 Tiguan SUVs in the United States for potential stalling issues.
According to a Detroit News report, the automaker filed a notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration saying that it is recalling the 2009-2014 models because “gas bubbles may form in the fuel system when winterized fuel with high vapor pressures is used in warmer areas or months…deposits may collect and degrade the electrical current flow inside the in-tank fuel pump” leading to potential stalling.
Volkswagen also stated that the fuel pump may not be able to overcome the vapor pressure under low loads and can potentially result in a vehicle stall directly after engine start, increasing the risk of a crash.
VW dealers will update the software and notify owners by Aug. 19. VW said starting in February increasing warranty rates were noticed and an investigation was launched.
In June, the automaker sent a technical bulletin to dealers to adjust software and increase fuel pump pressure to prevent the problem.
Dangers of Vehicle Stalling
If a vehicle stalls, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, leading to a potential crash.
When a vehicle stalls suddenly on a busy roadway or in the freeway where vehicles are traveling at higher speeds, there is the danger that other cars on the roadway may hit the stalled vehicle.
This could result in serious injuries or even fatalities. If you own one of these Volkswagen SUVs included in the recall, it would be in your best interest to schedule and appointment with your dealer and get the necessary repairs made. Please do not ignore a vehicle safety recall.
