Video Shows Road Rage Attackers Running Man Over With His Own Car
Police in Hemet have released a graphic video showing a man being run over by his own car during a road-rage confrontation.
According to a KTLA news report, officials hope it might lead to the arrests of two men involved in the hit-and-run crash that has left 53-year-old Tracy Leavitt seriously injured.
The incident occurred July 31 in the 1400 block of South Gilbert Street in Hemet where officials discovered Leavitt lying on the roadway.
He was suffering injuries consistent with being hit with a vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A video that officials obtained of the incident showed that Leavitt was involved in a apparent road-rage confrontation with two men.
Shocking Incident
During the confrontation, one of the suspects got behind the wheel of Leavitt’s car and struck him with it at a high rate of speed.
They abandoned his vehicle at the scene and fled in a white, 2006 to 2011 standard cab Ford Ranger pickup truck.
The assailants were described as white or light-skinned Hispanic men between the ages of 18 and 25 about 5 foot 10 inches tall with thin builds and brown hair.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the seriously injured victim.
His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay his medical bills. He has apparently had surgeries to his hip, leg and knee.
Anyone with information was asked to call Cpl. Gabe Gomez at 951-765-2324.
Holding Wrongdoers Accountable
This is an absolutely horrific and senseless incident. We certainly hope police are able to catch these individuals and bring them to justice.
In such cases, it is the victims and their families who suffer emotionally and financially. The victim in this case may suffer the effects of his injuries for the rest of his life.
There is no question that these men, when they are apprehended, will face criminal charges and penalties.
In addition, they can be held civilly liable as well for the significant losses this victim and his family have sustained.
In such cases where wrongdoing is involved, families can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering and emotional distress.
