Toyota Recalls About 696,000 Vehicles for Fuel Pump Problems
Toyota has announced that it is recalling about 696,000 Toyota and Lexus models over a fuel pump issue that could cause affected vehicles to stall. According to a Fox news report, the fuel pump in the affected vehicles may stop working, which could cause warning lights and messages to pop up on the instrument panel, and the engine to potentially run rough. As a result, the vehicle could stall, and this increases the likelihood of a crash if that happens when the car is traveling at a high rate of speed.
No Remedy Yet
Toyota is working on a remedy but has not found one. When the repair is available, vehicle owners can have it done at no cost. Vehicle owners will be notified by mail in mid-March. The Japanese automaker would not confirm whether there have been any injuries or crashes relating to this auto defect.
To see if your vehicle is involved in this or any other safety recall, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website and enter your vehicle identification number (VIN). If your vehicle has been recalled, the information should show up on the database.
Dangers of Vehicle Stalling
Stalled vehicles have the potential to cause significant injuries and damages. When your vehicle suddenly stalls on the freeway in Southern California, for example, things could go horribly wrong. When a vehicle stalls when it is in motion, there is a possibility that the driver loses control and crashes. A number of accidents on California freeways involve stalled vehicles that are struck by others on the freeway. Automakers have a responsibility to manufacture and design vehicles that are safe for consumers. They also have a legal obligation to report vehicle defects in a timely manner and issue recalls promptly.
If you have been injured as a result of a vehicle defect, whether or not the vehicle is part of a recall, you may be able to receive compensation for your injuries, damages and losses. Injured victims can file an auto product liability lawsuit seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering. If you have lost a loved one as the result of an auto defect, you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well. An experienced auto defect lawyer can help injured victims and families that have lost loved ones to defective automobiles secure justice and fair compensation for their losses.
