Three Injured in Anaheim Car Accident
Three people were injured, including two critically, in an Anaheim car accident that involved two vehicles colliding at a street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred the morning of November 28, 2016 at the intersection of Gilbert Street and Katella Avenue. Witnesses said a Toyota Camry was heading south on Gilbert Street when it ran a red light and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck going west on Katella Avenue.
The truck t-boned the Camry, trapping the driver of that vehicle inside. Emergency personnel had to use heavy equipment to extricate the Camry’s driver. Two other people were also injured in the crash. It is not clear which vehicle they were in at the time. All of the injured were transported to area hospitals for treatment. No arrests or citations were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car crash. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Crash Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 18 fatalities and 2,244 injuries reported as a result of traffic accidents in the city of Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, 165 people died and 13,837 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Laws and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that one of the drivers might have run a red light at the street intersection. Under California Vehicle Code 21453(a): “A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line…before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”
In such cases, the at-fault driver can be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
