Subaru Vehicles Recalled for Engine Control and Valve Defects
Subaru is issuing auto defect recalls for hundreds of thousands of vehicles in the United States to fix two separate problems with engine computers and motor debris. According to an Associated Press news report, the first recall covers 466,000 Impreza compact cars from model years 2017 to 2019 as well as the 2018 to 2019 models of Crosstrek SUVs.
Details of the Recall
Subaru said the engine computers in these models could continue to power the ignition coil after the motors are shut off, which could cause a short circuit and a blown fuse. Dealers will update the software and replace the coils and front exhaust pipes when the recall begins.
The second recall covers 205,000 vehicles in the 2017-2019 models of Impreza cars as well as the 2018 Crosstek SUVs. According to the automaker, the aluminum positive crankcase ventilation valves could fall apart, potentially causing debris to fall into the engine and cause loss of power. Both recalls are set to begin Dec. 13. Back in March, Subaru recalled 1.3 million vehicles in the United States for potentially faulty brake lights. That recall covered some 2014 to 2016 Forester, 2008 through 2016 Impreza and 2013 to 2017 Crosstek vehicles.
