Subaru Recalls Nearly 200,000 Vehicles for Stall Risk
Subaru is issuing a vehicle defect recall for more than 188,000 Impreza sedans and hatchback wagons, Outback wagons, Legacy sedans and Ascent SUVs with faulty fuel pumps that could cause the engine to stall. According to Consumer Reports, the risk of a crash is increased if this happens when the vehicle is in motion.

Subaru says before a stall occurs, drivers may notice that the engine runs rough. You may also experience shaking, hear unusually loud noises, or see the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. In some cases, the vehicle may not start. Subaru has also said it is not aware of any car accidents or injuries related to this particular issue. The company expects the recall work to begin on June 5.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defective fuel pump in these recalled vehicles could develop cracks and fail. This could prevent the vehicle’s engine from starting or cause it to stall while it’s running. When the recall begins in June, Subaru’s dealers will replace the faulty fuel pump with a redesigned one free of charge.
The recall includes 2019 Impreza hatchbacks and sedans manufactured from June 18, 2018, through Feb. 25, 2019; Outback wagons and Legacy sedans manufactured from June 29, 2018 through Feb. 19, 2019; and 2019 Subaru Ascent SUVs manufactured from June 26, 2018 through Feb. 18, 2019.
