Police in North Carolina to Get Ghost Cars to Nab Traffic Violators
On California’s freeways and roadways, we know law enforcement officials catch traffic violators using radar, helicopters and sometimes, by just hiding in an alcove. But, according to a WBTV news report, police in North Carolina are about to get what they call “ghost cars” to catch motorists who are breaking the rules of the road.
How Ghost Cars Work
Ghost cars or “stealth cars” are marked police vehicles, but the graphics and decals are barely visible during the day and at night, they reflect. So, while the vehicles are not as stealthy at nighttime, they could be barely noticeable during the day and that, officials say, helps them be in the right place at the right time to catch those who violate traffic laws.
Police officers say people don’t notice these cars because they don’t have the light bars on top as other police cruisers do. Officials say it’s not about trying to generate revenue, but to contact drivers who are breaking the law such as speeding, running red lights, stop signs and making unsafe passes and lane changes. In North Carolina, the sheriff’s office says they are looking for compliance from drivers and that the ghost cars help them get that compliance.
Driver Negligence and Car Accidents
It is no secret that driver negligence is one of the main causes of car accidents that result in injuries and fatalities. Some common examples of driver negligence that result in major injury auto accidents include speeding, driving under the influence, distracted driving, running red lights and stop signs and making unsafe passes and lane changes.
It’s not clear if these ghost cars are coming to California any time soon, but such tools could very well help law enforcement officials to uphold the rules of the road and catch motorists who are violating these rules.
