Polaris Slingshots Recalled for Faulty Seats and Seatbelts

The Polaris Slingshot three-wheel auto-cycle is being recalled for the third time in about four years and this time it’s for defective seats and seatbelts. According to The Drive, the driver- and passenger-side seatbelt and seatback anchoring bracket in these recalled vehicles may have been improperly welded. Additionally, the recall notice says, the differences in seat assembly may prevent proper latching of the seat slider allowing the driver’s seat to move unexpectedly.

Details of the Recall

Vehicles owners must take their Slingshots and have the seatbelt bracket and seatback welds inspected as well as the seat slider latching function. If the dealer finds problems with any of these components, they will repair and/or replace the affected components at no charge to consumers. The recall began on April 16. The recalled Slingshot vehicles were manufactured between 2015 and 2018. Polaris is urging owners to schedule an appointment with the certified local dealer to get the vehicles checked and repaired if necessary.

The Polaris Slingshot three-wheel auto-cycle has had prior issues with safety recalls. The first one was in 2016 for an “improperly manufactured swing arm resulting in decreased swing arm strength.” In 2017, about half of the Slingshots from the 2016 recall received another recall to fix a problem caused by a previous recall because some of the repair kits sent to Polaris dealers were missing some important parts. As a result, about 9,000 Slingshots had to be recalled again.
