Nissan to Recall 188,000 Vehicles for Braking Defects
Nissan Motor Co. is issuing a vehicle defect recall for 188,000 vehicles worldwide due to braking problems. According to a report in Detroit News, the recall involved 2013-2014 Pathfinder SUVs, 2013 Infiniti JX35 and 2014 Infiniti QX60 crossover vehicles.
Nissan officials say that during light braking on rough roads, the antilock brake system brake pressure output software may lead to an increase in stopping distance. This condition could cause drivers to experience longer stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. About 153,000 vehicles involved in this recall were sold in the United States.
Braking Issues
Nissan informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it implemented software reprogramming on Sept. 20 and decided on Oct. 7 to issue the recall. Nissan conducted an incident vehicle investigation in Canada to duplicate the incident. They then identified four previous field incident reports received in the prior four months concerning brake performance on Infiniti JX35 vehicles.
During this study, Nissan determined that the ABS brake pressure output software setting could cause stopping distances that are longer than expected for the driver’s pedal force. This could particularly happen when the ABS was activated over rough or uneven roads. When the recall begins in two months, Nissan will notify owners and will reprogram the software to fix the issue.
