Nissan recalls 394,000 Cars for Fluid Leaks and Risk of Fires

Nissan is recalling over 394,000 vehicles in the United States because a brake fluid leak could pose the risk of a fire. According to an Associated Press news report, because of this risk, the automaker is urging owners to park the vehicles outdoors and away from the structure if the antilock brake light comes on for more than 10 seconds. This recall covers the Nissan Murano SUV from 2015 through 2018, the Maxima sedans from 2016 through 2018 as well as the Infiniti QX60 and Nissan Pathfinder SUVs from 2017 through 2019.

Details of the Recall

Nissan says an anti-lock brake actuator pump can leak fluid onto a circuit board causing fires and electrical shorts. It is not known if there were any fires, injuries or fatalities as a result of this auto defect. Some of the vehicles included in this recall are being recalled for the second time. In a 2018 recall, Nissan dealers inspected the vehicles and did not replace the pumps of fluid.

When this recall begins, dealers will replace the pumps on all of the vehicles. Recall notices will start going out to owners starting Dec. 2. Parts are available for the recalled vehicles with illuminated antilock brake lights. Owners will receive a second notice in the summer when additional parts become available.
