Motorcyclist Killed in Newport Beach Crash
Ammar Omar A. Sherbini, 31, was killed in a Newport Beach motorcycle accident after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed, hitting a palm tree in the center divider. The fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Pacific Coast Highway near Prospect Street. Officials said Sherbini was thrown off his motorcycle and declared dead when first responders arrived. Police say he struck the center divider early morning on September 28, 2013. Based on preliminary investigations, officials say excessive speed may have been a factor. The investigation is still ongoing.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Ammar Omar A. Sherbini, for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
 Newport Beach Motorcycle Accidents
There were no fatalities, but 25 injuries reported due to motorcycle accidents in Newport Beach, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 19 people died and 750 were injured due to motorcycle collisions during the same year.
 What Caused This Crash?
Based on this news report, officials are still not certain as to what caused Sherbini to lose control of his motorcycle and strike the center median. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was Sherbini speeding as officials suspect? Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in the motorcycle, which may have caused or contributed to the incident? Did a dangerous or defective roadway cause the accident? Were other vehicles involved? For example, was the motorcycle run off the roadway by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
 Liability Issues
If a defective part caused the incident, the manufacturer of the motorcycle and/or the defective part, can be held liable. If a dangerous roadway caused the incident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can be held liable. In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Newport Beach personal injury lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
