Death Metal Singer Killed in Huntington Beach Motorcycle Accident
Mitchell Lucker, 28, the vocalist for the band Suicide Silence, was killed in a Huntington Beach motorcycle accident after his Harley-Davidson crashed into a pole. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the night of October 31, 2012.
Police say Lucker was riding the 2013 Harley south on Main Street when he lost control and crashed into a light pole. Lucker was ejected, but the motorcycle continued south on Main and collided with a 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck. Lucker was transported to an area trauma center where he died from his injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of this fatal accident.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Mitchell Lucker for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Motorcycle Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 44 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in Huntington Beach. In Orange County as a whole, 19 fatalities and 750 injuries were reported due to motorcycle crashes during the same year.
What Caused This Fatal Crash?
Based on this news account, it appears that Lucker lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the pole. However, officials are still looking into what caused Lucker to lose control of the motorcycle. There are several questions that remain here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the motorcycle that led to the collision? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this fatal motorcycle accident? Were any other vehicles involved in this incident? For example, was the victim run off the roadway or clipped by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Liability Issues
In this case, it would be a good idea for Lucker’s family to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, so an expert can examine the vehicle for any defects or malfunctions. If a vehicle defect caused the accident, the manufacturer of the motorcycle or the maker of the defective part can be held liable for Lucker’s wrongful death. If a dangerous roadway caused the accident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable. An experienced Huntington Beach personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims or their families in such cases about their legal rights and options.
