Huntington Beach Car Accident Kills One, Injures Three Others
Andres Batta, 46, was killed and three others were hospitalized with injuries after a Huntington Beach car accident that occurred at a city intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred the night of April 11 at the intersection of Yorktown Avenue and Main Street. Police said a Porsche 911, driven by Batta, was traveling west on Yorktown when a Ford Mustang making a left turn on Main from Yorktown struck the Porsche.
The driver of the Mustang, a 20-year-old man, and his two passengers were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests or citations were reported. Anyone with information is asked to contact Huntington Beach police at 714-536-5670. The investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of Andres Batta for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. We offer our deepest condolences to them.
Crash Statistics
There were 18 fatalities and 949 injuries reported as a result of car accidents in the city of Huntington Beach, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2014 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 165 people died and 13,736 were injured due to car accidents during the same year.
Laws and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that the Mustang’s driver was making a left turn at an intersection, which is monitored by traffic lights. The law requires that vehicles making left or U-turns yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles and make the turn only when it is safe to do so. In this particular case, we trust officials are looking into whether the driver of the Mustang made a legal turn at the intersection. Officials are also likely looking into the speed at which the driver of the Porsche was traveling and whether alcohol, drugs, or driver distraction played a role in this collision.
In cases where the driver is at-fault, injured victims may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, rehabilitation costs and pain and suffering. Families of deceased victims may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost future income, pain and suffering and loss of love and companionship. An experienced personal injury or Huntington Beach truck accident lawyer will be able to stay abreast of the official investigation and help protect the rights and best interests of injured victims and their families.
