Gerber Recalls Baby Food Because it Could Spoil
The Gerber food company has issued a defective product recall for some of its organic baby food products after finding a defect in the packaging. According to an ABC news report, the company is recalling specific batches of two different types of organic food pouches that were sold nationwide over concerns that the product could spoil when it’s being transported or handled. So far, three people have reported “temporary gastrointestinal symptoms,” but the company has not confirmed that those illnesses are related to the food.
Gerber issued a statement that in some cases, consumers might notice that the pouches in question are bloated and that the product inside might have an “off taste” or odor. Gerber is working to remove these defective products from store shelves. Consumers who have purchased these items can get replacement coupons. The recall includes only Gerber Oraganic 2ND FOODS pouches – Pears, Carrots & Peas. These are 3.5-ounce pouches with the UPC 15000074319. Food Poisoning and Babies
How can you tell if your baby has food poisoning? Usually, food-borne illnesses are caused by eating or drinking food items that are contaminated with bacteria or viruses. The symptoms of food poisoning include diarrhea, vomiting, fussiness and often, fever. If your baby has food poisoning, the symptoms will likely appear two to 48 hours after he or she eats the food and could last a day or two, but could continue in severe cases for a week or even more. You can tell the type of food poisoning your baby has by testing of blood, stool, or leftover food. Some of the most common food-borne infections are caused by bacteria such as campylobacter, salmonella and E. coli.
Holding Food Producers Accountable
Food manufacturers and producers have a responsibility and a legal obligation to manufacture food that is safe for consumers. In this particular case, the recall affects the most vulnerable population – babies. If you have purchased any of these recalled food items, please discard them or return them to the store right away. If your child has consumed these products, monitor your baby closely for any food poisoning symptoms. If he or she is experiencing symptoms, get prompt medical attention and treatment. Contact an experienced personal injury attorney who will help protect your legal rights and options.
