Fruit Jelly Cups Recalled for Choking Hazard
Rong Shing Trading NY Inc. is recalling its 21.1-ounce packs of Xi Zhi Liang Fruit Jelly Cups because they may pose a choking hazard. According to an alert posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the small-size jelly cups containing konjac powder have previously been linked to choking deaths of children. Small konjac powder jelly cups are presently under FDA import alert and are not permitted to be sold in the United States because of this issue.
Details of the Recall
The recalled jelly cups were distributed nationwide in retail food stores. The product comes in pink, yellow and blue plastic backpacks with numerous individual plastic jelly cups inside each backpack, and a toy car pouch on the front of the plastic backpack. So far, no choking incidents have been reported to date in connection with these products.
The potential choking hazard was noted during a routine inspection by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Consumers who purchased packs of these jelly cups are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
