Ford Recalls Vehicles For Serious Safety Issues
Ford Motor Company has issued three safety recalls, the largest involving about 213,000 Ford Explorer SUVS and its law enforcement counterpart, the Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicle.
According to a report in The New York Times, at issue with the SUVs from mode years 2011 to 2013 are doors that can suddenly open during a side-impact crash increasing the risk of injury and/or death.
A spring that controls the inside door handle was determined to have been defective.
Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this vehicle defect.
Three Separate Recalls
This recall includes about 194,000 vehicles in the United States and more than 18,000 in Canada and Mexico.
The SUVs were all built in the Ford plant in Chicago.
The company had issued recalls last year for a similar problem. Those recalls included about 900,000 vehicles spread across four models.
The automaker also recalled 1,725 Lincoln MKT limos and hearses for a vacuum pump defect that could result in a fire under the hood.
So far the company has received reports of two such fires. In addition, Ford is recalling about 6,500 ambulances that have defective exhaust gas temperature sensors.
This can cause false alerts that the vehicle’s temperature is too high. No injuries have been linked to this defect either.
Dangerous Vehicles
Based on this news report, it appears that these vehicles have faulty door handles that could cause doors to fly open. This of course puts vehicle occupants in serious danger.
