Ford Recalls 113000 Vehicles for Fuel Pump and Power Window Issues
Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 113,000 vehicles North America that have faulty fuel pumps that could fail and cause the vehicles to stall and power window software that needs to be updated. According to a Detroit News report, the automaker is recalling 88,151 2013-15 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT and Police Interceptor sedans with 3.5-liter gasoline turbocharged direct injection engines and 2,472 2015-16 Ford Transit 3.2-liter diesel-equipped vehicles.
Recall Details
Ford has received reports of cars stalling suddenly and without warning while driving and without the ability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford is also recalling 23,150 2017 Escape vehicles that have power window software that may close remotely more strongly than federal requirements, increasing the risk of injury. When the recall begins, Ford dealers will fix the fuel pump control module and power window software issues at no cost to consumers.
The fuel system of the Ford Transit vehicles will first be inspected for metallic contamination. If no such contamination is present, dealers will replace the fuel injection pump and associated parts. If there is contamination, in addition to replacing the fuel pump, fuel injector and fuel filter, they will also clean and flush the fuel system for free.
The Danger of Vehicle Stalling
Stalling vehicles could potentially cause significant injuries or even fatalities. When a vehicle stalls, the driver may lose control of the vehicle causing a crash. If the stalling occurs on a busy roadway or on the freeway where vehicles are traveling at higher speeds, there is the danger that other vehicles might hit you. If your car stalls in the middle of the roadway and you get off the vehicle, there is also the danger of getting hit by other passing vehicles. If you own one of the Ford vehicles included in these recalls, it would be in your best interest to schedule an appointment with the dealership and get the necessary repairs made right away.
Knowing Your Rights
If a defective auto caused your injuries, you may be able to file an auto product liability claim against the manufacturer seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. It would also be a good idea to preserve the vehicle for a thorough inspection by an expert who will check it for defects, malfunctions and design flaws. An experienced auto product liability attorney will not only be able to thoroughly and independently investigate your case, but also help ensure that your legal rights are protected and that you are fairly compensated for your losses.
