Ford Focus Vehicles Recalled for Stalling Issues

Ford is recalling 58,000 of its 2012-2014 and 2017 Focus vehicles because the software update they received as part of a prior recall was incomplete. According to Consumer Reports, the earlier recall was meant to fix a problem with the gas tank that could cause the vehicle to lose power, inaccurate readings or an indicator light signaling a malfunction has occurred. If a vehicle loses power while in motion, the risk of crash increases. So far, Ford says it is not aware of any car accidents or injuries related to this vehicle defect.

Recall Details

The problem with these vehicles is that defective software may not respond when needed when a malfunctioning valve sticks open. That could potentially deform the fuel tank. If this happens, owners may see a warning light come up, a gas gauge that is inaccurate or acting erratically or loss of power. Ford is asking owners of the affected vehicles to keep their gas tanks at least half full until the recalled vehicles are repaired.

This is in order to prevent the vehicle from unexpectedly running out of gas. When the recall begins, dealers will reprogram the affected vehicle’s software to prevent the emissions system from malfunctioning and replace the components as needed, all at no charge to vehicle owners.
