Eddie Bauer Infant Carriers Sold at Target Recalled for Fall Hazards
About 22,000 Eddie Bauer fabric infant carriers sold at Target have been recalled because the buckles on these devices can break and pose a fall hazard to children. According to a news report in the Miami Herald, Gold Inc., which imports the product that is made in China by Woodfield Baby Products, says it knows of eight instances of the buckles breaking. However, they claim no injuries have been reported so far. Â Â
Details of the Recall
The recalled carriers are black with “Eddie Bauer” and “First Adventure” in silver lettering. They sold for $70 in Target and online at Target.com from December 2017 through August 2018. Gold is asking that carrier owners contact the company. If they have a recalled carrier, consumers can decide if they want a replacement or a full refund.
Those who bought these products are urged to cut off and return both straps and tag with their name, address and phone number in order to receive the replacement products at no cost, or a full refund. Injuries from Nursery Products
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in 2016, there were an estimated 62,300 emergency department-treated injuries associated with nursery products among children under 5 years of age. High chairs, cribs, strollers and infant carriers were associated with 70 percent of the total estimated injuries.
Falls were the leading cause of injury and the head followed by the face were the body parts injured most frequently. A diagnosis of internal organ injury, contusion or laceration was associated with a majority of injuries. Between 2012 and 2014, CPSC reported 284 deaths associated with nursery products. Cribs, bassinets, playpens, infant carriers and baby bouncer seats were associated with 86 percent of the fatalities.
